Teaspoons to Grams Converter
Pick an ingredient, enter US or imperial teaspoons and read the weight in milligrams, grams or kilograms. A teaspoon of salt weighs more than a teaspoon of flour, so the ingredient menu changes the answer.

Teaspoons and grams in recipes
A teaspoon measures volume (about 4.93 ml for a US teaspoon) and a gram measures weight, so converting between them needs the density of the ingredient. A level teaspoon of fine salt weighs about 5.9 g, a teaspoon of honey about 6.9 g and a teaspoon of flour only 2.6 g.
Because teaspoons are used for small, potent quantities such as salt, yeast and sweetener, the weight can matter more than it seems. Swapping a teaspoon of fine salt for a teaspoon of coarse flakes changes the saltiness of a dish noticeably, and a scale removes the guesswork.

Worked examples
1 teaspoon of salt. 4.9289 × 1.2 = 5.91 g, which the converter rounds to 6 g.
2 teaspoons of granulated sugar. 2 × 4.9289 × 0.895 = 8.82 g, shown as 9 g.
3 teaspoons of runny honey. 3 × 4.9289 × 1.4 = 20.7 g, shown as 21 g. Three teaspoons are one tablespoon, so this matches the tablespoon figure.

Rounding and accuracy
Answers in grams and milligrams are rounded to whole numbers, which is coarse for a single teaspoon. One teaspoon of flour is really 2.56 g but displays as 3 g, an error of about 17%. Choosing MilliGrams as the target shows 2563 mg, and converting a larger number of teaspoons at once also reduces the effect.
Treat the numbers as good estimates. How firmly a spoon is packed, whether it is level or heaped, and the grind of the ingredient all change the weight. For the reverse conversion see the grams to teaspoons converter, and for volume only try the teaspoons to milliliters converter.
