PB to GB Converter
Type a size in petabytes and read it in gigabytes. The box counts 1,000,000 GB to the petabyte; clear the SI box to count 1,048,576.

How many gigabytes are in a petabyte?
1 GB = 1,000,000 PB in SI counting, the system that the International System of Units defines and storage vendors use. In binary counting 1 GiB = 1,048,576 PiB; the binary units carry the IEC names gibibytes and pebibytes.
GB = PB ÷ 1,000,000 (SI)
GiB = PiB ÷ 1,048,576 (binary)
The converter opens with Use SI standard ticked. Clear the box to count in powers of 1,024; the labels then change to PiB and GiB, so you can tell which system an answer belongs to.
Where PB to GB comes up
A petabyte is hard to picture, but gigabytes are familiar from phones, downloads and cloud plans. Expressing a petabyte in gigabytes shows the scale: at 1,000,000 GB in SI counting, one petabyte is about a million 1 GB files, or a quarter of a million 4 GB movies.
How to convert PB to GB
- Type the number of petabytes in the first box.
- Leave Use SI standard ticked for thousands, or clear it for 1,024s.
- The GigaBytes box shows the answer as you type.
The digits are computed exactly, not through floating-point numbers, so very large sizes keep every digit. Answers of 0.1 or more are rounded to four decimal places and smaller ones keep six significant digits. Anything beyond 100 digits or a power of ten above 100 reads "Number too large".
Example: 0.75 PB
Take 0.75 PB. In SI counting that is 0.75 ÷ 1,000,000 = 0.00000075 GB. In binary counting it is 0.75 ÷ 1,048,576 = 0.000000715256 GiB, using PiB and GiB.

The opposite direction is the GB to PB converter. To stay at a coarser unit use PB to TB, and for the finest step see PB to MB. The Data Units converter converts any pair.
Mistakes to avoid
- Mixing the two systems. 1 GB = 1,000,000 PB, but 1 GiB = 1,048,576 PiB. A number counted one way must not be compared with one counted the other.
- Confusing bytes and bits. PB with a capital B is bytes; a lowercase b is bits, an eighth the size.
- Reading a labelled capacity as a binary one. Drive and cloud capacities are sold in SI units, while some operating systems report in binary units under the SI names.
PB to GB Converter FAQ
What is 0.75 PB in GB?
0.75 PB is 0.00000075 GB in SI counting and 0.000000715256 GiB in binary counting.
How many 4 GB movies fit in a petabyte?
In SI counting 1 PB is 1,000,000 GB, so 250,000 movies of 4 GB each. In binary counting 1 PiB is 1,048,576 GiB, which holds 262,144 files of 4 GiB.
Is the answer exact?
Yes. The input is read as an exact decimal and the factors are whole numbers, so every digit shown is correct; only the last shown place is rounded.
