Using the salary converter
Type your pay in the first box and set its period with the first drop-down: hourly, daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. The second drop-down chooses the period for the answer, which updates as you type.
Pay periods that share a fixed calendar relationship need no extra information. Weekly pay times 2 is bi-weekly, monthly pay times 12 is yearly, and quarterly pay times 4 is yearly. Hourly and daily rates depend on how much you work, so those conversions show the relevant extra settings:
- Hours per week (default 40) for any conversion to or from an hourly rate.
- Work days per week (default 5) for any conversion to or from a daily rate.
- Holidays per year (default 10) and vacation per year (default 15) when a daily rate is converted to or from hourly, monthly, quarterly or yearly pay. They are subtracted from the working days in the year.
A year is counted as 52.14 weeks (365 ÷ 7), a month as one twelfth of that and a quarter as a quarter. Results are rounded to two decimals, with a thousands separator.
These are gross, before-tax figures and estimates only. They ignore overtime, bonuses, unpaid leave and taxes, and are not financial or payroll advice. See our disclaimer.
Salary conversion examples
Each example uses the converter's own rules, so you can check any result by hand.
Hourly rate to monthly salary
Pay is 22 per hour for a 40-hour week. Weekly pay is 22 × 40 = 880. Over a year that is 880 × 52.14 = 45,883.20, and one twelfth of that is 3,823.60 per month.
monthly = hourly rate × hours per week × 52.14 ÷ 12
Annual salary to hourly rate
A salary of 78,000 a year with a 40-hour week works out as 78,000 ÷ (52.14 × 40) = 78,000 ÷ 2,085.6 hours, or about 37.40 per hour. Weekly pay on the same salary is 78,000 ÷ 52.14 = 1,495.97, and monthly pay is 6,500.
hourly = annual salary ÷ (52.14 × hours per week)
Daily rate to salary
Take a day rate of 240, a five-day week, 10 public holidays and 15 vacation days. The days actually worked in a year are 52.14 × 5 − (10 + 15) = 260.7 − 25 = 235.7. So the yearly pay is 240 × 235.7 = 56,568, and the monthly pay is 56,568 ÷ 12 = 4,714.
working days per year = 52.14 × work days per week − holidays − vacation
The same rules run backwards for yearly or monthly pay to daily rate: 56,568 ÷ 235.7 gives 240 again. Weekly and bi-weekly pay to a daily rate only needs the number of work days per week, for instance a weekly figure of 1,200 over a five-day week is 240 per day.
Job market and business considerations
Comparing offers is the most common reason to convert pay. A contract role quoted per hour and a permanent role quoted per year are only comparable once you account for paid leave, benefits and the hours you are expected to work. Hourly workers are often paid only for the hours they work, so a higher-looking rate can still produce a lower yearly income once unpaid days off are counted.
Employers use the same arithmetic to cost a position, converting an annual budget into an hourly or daily equivalent. Remember that the working-days figure above depends heavily on leave entitlements. Two jobs paying the same annual amount produce different daily rates if one has 25 days off and the other has 35.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by the hours worked per week, then by 52.14 weeks. At 22 per hour and 40 hours a week, that is 22 × 40 × 52.14 = 45,883.20 a year.
Why does the converter use 52.14 weeks in a year?
A 365-day year contains 365 ÷ 7 = 52.14 weeks, which is slightly more than 52. Using 52.14 keeps weekly, monthly and yearly figures consistent with the real calendar.
What are holidays and vacation used for?
They only matter for daily rates. They are subtracted from the working days in a year so that a daily rate reflects the days you actually work.
Is the result before or after tax?
Before tax. The converter changes the period of the pay figure you enter and does not apply taxes, deductions or benefits.
