How many square meters are in a square foot?
One square foot is exactly 0.09290304 square meters. It follows from the definition of the foot as 0.3048 meter: a square foot is 0.3048 m × 0.3048 m = 0.09290304 m2. Going the other way, one square meter is about 10.7639 square feet.

Do not forget that the conversion is squared
A foot is 0.3048 m, but you cannot multiply an area in square feet by 0.3048. That factor belongs to lengths. If you convert the sides first, the area is the product of the converted sides: 12 ft = 3.6576 m and 15 ft = 4.572 m, and 3.6576 × 4.572 gives the same 16.7225 m2 as the direct calculation. Applying 0.3048 to 180 sq ft would give 54.86, a wrong answer that is more than three times too large.
Rule of thumb: an area factor is always the length factor multiplied by itself.
